Google Barcode Tribute

Wow - was kinda amazed when I logged on sometime around 12AMish EST this morning....
Google has a barcode above it's homepage search and it got me thinking: Damn, I have been in this business way too long.
As a Motorola Channel Manager - I "speak" barcode all day...and I mean "all day". For the past 3 some years or so, GB has an organization has been infiltrating (I like to call it casual bothering) the Motorola landscape. Which of course, eventually resulted in us being ISV of the Year (that's all my doing btw!).
I've seen shops come and go...and I've seen solutions transform over time to keep up with the need of rapid, more demanding communication and real-time interaction.
My question is: what's next? Someone once said RFID is goin to be the next best thing...but now I disagree. It was "hot" for a second - but barcodes (or something similar) seem to be the tried/proven method. Especially for smaller firms who are looking to automate their supply chain.
What you guys think? What's "hot"? ala Paris Hilton.
